Role Overview:
As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a crucial role in delivering individualized patient care throughout the surgical process. Your responsibilities will include maintaining a sterile environment, managing inventory, and adhering to the guidelines established by the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN).
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess daily assignments and understand surgeon-specific preferences and anesthesia requirements.
- Identify and prioritize patient care needs, considering various factors such as age and cultural background.
- Plan care based on the procedure, standards of practice, and physician preferences.
- Prepare and verify sterile packs, sutures, and other necessary items.
- Assist in maintaining aseptic technique and ensuring safety within the department.
- Follow established protocols for patient positioning, skin preparation, and verification processes.
- Maintain the sterile field during procedures and address any breaches in technique immediately.
- Communicate effectively with the surgical team regarding the status of the procedure.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazard materials in accordance with safety protocols.
- Collaborate with the RN Circulator to guarantee the availability of required equipment and supplies.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of one year of experience as a Surgical Technologist in an acute care hospital is required.
- Completion of a Surgical Technology Program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES is necessary.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist is preferred for candidates from accredited programs.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association is required.
