Role Overview:

As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a crucial role in delivering individualized patient care throughout the surgical process. Your responsibilities will include maintaining a sterile environment, managing inventory, and adhering to the guidelines established by the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess daily assignments and understand surgeon-specific preferences and anesthesia requirements.
  • Identify and prioritize patient care needs, considering various factors such as age and cultural background.
  • Plan care based on the procedure, standards of practice, and physician preferences.
  • Prepare and verify sterile packs, sutures, and other necessary items.
  • Assist in maintaining aseptic technique and ensuring safety within the department.
  • Follow established protocols for patient positioning, skin preparation, and verification processes.
  • Maintain the sterile field during procedures and address any breaches in technique immediately.
  • Communicate effectively with the surgical team regarding the status of the procedure.
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazard materials in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with the RN Circulator to guarantee the availability of required equipment and supplies.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one year of experience as a Surgical Technologist in an acute care hospital is required.
  • Completion of a Surgical Technology Program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES is necessary.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist is preferred for candidates from accredited programs.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association is required.

This role demands physical stamina, as it involves lifting and moving patients and equipment. Candidates should be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining a high standard of care.
