Permitting Specialist

The Permitting Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of building permits and inspections in Brunswick County. This position is responsible for reviewing residential and commercial building permit applications, issuing necessary permits, and coordinating with contractors and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.

• Review and process building permit applications, ensuring all necessary documentation is complete and accurate
• Issue building, fire, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and other permits as required
• Coordinate with contractors and other stakeholders to schedule inspections and ensure compliance with building codes and regulations
• Perform billing, acceptance, and processing of payments for permits and services
• Identify flood zones and other jurisdictions that apply and verify address information for the Code Administration Department

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• An Associate's Degree in planning or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• Some experience in technical and administrative support work in a governmental setting
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
