Permitting Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Permitting Technician to join our team at Brunswick County, NC. As a Permitting Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our permitting process.

• Review and process building permit applications, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
• Issue building, fire, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and gas permits, as well as temporary certificates of occupancy and certificates of compliance.
• Assist the public in scheduling inspections and ensure clear communication with contractors through our BCMS system.
• Identify flood zones and other jurisdictions that apply, and verify address information for the Code Administration Department.
• Perform billing, acceptance, and processing of payments, including daily deposits.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• An Associate's Degree in planning or a related field, with some experience in technical and administrative support work in a governmental setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with the public and contractors.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and apply complex regulations.
• Physical ability to operate a variety of office equipment, with the ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
