Role Overview:
The Principal Mechanical Engineer will play a pivotal role in delivering expert engineering support for the design and innovation of new products, as well as diagnosing and resolving issues with existing systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize advanced engineering principles to create design concepts that fulfill project specifications and customer needs, supported by sketches and calculations.
- Develop and present detailed Mechanical Development Plans and Design Scheme Data Packs for internal and external reviews.
- Act as Design Authority, ensuring all datasets (drawings/MBD) comply with required standards and accurately represent design intent.
- Manage design risks by identifying and mitigating potential issues early in the product lifecycle.
- Oversee the validation and verification of engineering requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and technicians, ensuring high-quality design solutions and technical documentation.
- Collaborate across engineering disciplines, engaging with specialists as necessary.
- Conduct thorough checks on the work produced by other engineers, including designs and technical reports.
- Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures within the engineering team.
- Assist in preparing estimates for future design projects.
Essential Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Chartered Engineer status in accordance with UK-SPEC.
- Extensive experience across the full product design lifecycle in an engineering context.
- Proficient in creating technical datasets and utilizing CAD tools for design modeling.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in avionic systems, optical displays, mechatronics, and related fields.
- Familiarity with dynamic, structural, and thermal analysis tools.
- Leadership experience in mechanical or cross-discipline design teams.
- Proficiency in CREO CAD software and experience with TeamCenter, DOORS, and JIRA.
