Job Summary:

The Licensed Psychiatric Technician provides nursing care and milieu management under the direction of a Registered Nurse. This role requires six months of experience in an acute mental health treatment setting within the past four years and a current Psychiatric Technician license in California.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish a therapeutic relationship with patients and communicate effectively through various channels.
  • Administer medication and treatments, perform vitals, and escalate as needed.
  • Participate in classes and workshops, coordinate end-of-episode care, and complete documentation.
  • Document physician orders accurately and participate in unit activities.
  • Implement patient treatment plans and keep the care team informed of patient behavior and changes in condition.
  • Ensure supplies and medications are available and observe, record, and report patient presentation.
  • Promote self-help skills and perform other related duties as necessary.

Grade 540

Basic Qualifications: Experience
  • Minimum six (6) months experience working in an acute mental health treatment setting within the past four years.
  • Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited Psychiatric Technician Program, or otherwise qualified for California licensure as a Psychiatric Technician.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Psychiatric Technician License (California)
  • Basic Life Support
Additional Requirements:
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations governing mental health services in California.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write correspondence and present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Willingness to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of psychiatric illness and its treatment.
  • Competency in data collection and documentation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of psychotropic medications.
