Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Pharmacy Technician to join our team at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership and support to our pharmacy team, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of pharmacy services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of aseptic technique training programs
  • Monitor aseptic technique competencies and collect and evaluate data related to staff competence
  • Participate in inventory management activities, including ordering supplies and medications, and monitoring usage patterns
  • Assist with the coordination of resources related to drug shortages, including communicating with staff and facilitating the implementation of new compounding procedures
  • Provide instruction, evaluate performance, and follow up on training needs for pharmacy technicians
  • Coordinate the daily functions of pharmacy technicians to meet service needs as identified by the pharmacist
  • Supervise and train new staff, including pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, and pharmacy residents
  • Assist with the evaluation and implementation of new products and technology, as well as new policy and procedures
  • Participate in scheduling and coordinate with the technician supervisor to prepare schedules
Requirements
  • Registered with the Pharmacy Board at the time of hire
  • National certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
  • High school diploma or the equivalent
  • Four years of post-high school experience and/or education in the natural sciences, or four years of experience as a pharmacy technician
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to perform ratio/proportion equations
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in time-sensitive situations
  • Previous work experience in an environment that included inventory maintenance activities
  • Knowledge of windows-based computer programs
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Previous work experience in healthcare
