General Summary:

The Premium Accountant is tasked with utilizing both technical and analytical expertise to play a crucial role in the financial reporting operations.

The department's mission includes safeguarding the organization's assets, ensuring timely and precise external reporting, analyzing financial trends and critical issues, and collaborating with various business units to provide analytical insights that empower leadership to make informed, data-driven decisions aimed at fostering profitable growth.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct and oversee balance sheet reconciliations, focusing on account and sub-ledger reviews related to premiums, commissions, and accounts receivable.
  2. Ensure that the review process for these accounts is thorough, accurate, and substantiated by appropriate documentation in line with statutory accounting standards and internal controls.
  3. Support the monthly and quarterly financial reporting processes, delivering analysis of financial statements across all company entities.
  4. Play a vital role in preparing the quarterly and annual financial statements, including all necessary disclosures, supporting schedules, and internal communication materials.
  5. Examine month-end closing activities for inconsistencies, coding errors, and other issues that require investigation or escalation to management, including the preparation, review, upload, and posting of journal entries.
  6. Engage in audit preparation and enhance processes, procedures, and controls to ensure adherence to relevant statutory accounting principles and regulatory standards.
  7. Collaborate with the IT department to optimize and automate processes wherever feasible.
  8. Participate in special projects and assignments across different business areas to contribute to the company's growth.
  9. Perform any additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related discipline.
  • CPA designation and/or MBA is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in statutory accounting is required.
  • At least one year of experience with a Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance firm or an accounting firm serving insurance clients is essential.
  • Proficiency in general ledger management, journal entry preparation, and monthly and annual closing processes.
  • Exceptional verbal communication and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
  • Familiarity with Sage Intacct or similar accounting software is advantageous.
  • Must be available to work five days a week in the office.

The compensation for this position will be based on experience and other legally permissible factors.
