Position Overview

The Pharmacy Operations Manager is tasked with overseeing and directing pharmacy staff, programs, services, and operational functions. Collaboration with other department leaders is essential to ensure that pharmacy purchasing, receiving, inventory management, and overall supply chain processes are functioning optimally. The position encompasses leadership, management, and coordination of pharmacy operations, medication utilization systems, strategic planning, human resource management, education, research, and community engagement within designated responsibilities. All duties are performed in partnership with the pharmacy leadership team under the guidance of the Corporate Director of Pharmacy. The complexity of this role necessitates a broad and well-developed skill set, including time management, effective communication, creativity, strategic vision, teamwork, leadership, clinical expertise, mentorship, and adaptability to change.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Medication Systems and Operations Management - Lead the delivery of safe, timely, efficient, equitable, and patient-focused pharmacy services. Optimize technology and automation for resource efficiency, ensuring compliance with sterile and non-sterile compounding standards. Analyze medication error reports and implement quality improvement strategies to enhance organizational performance. Oversee pharmacy staff and medication workflows in peri-operative care settings, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
  2. Human Resource Oversight - Manage pharmacy personnel, conducting performance evaluations and facilitating team meetings. Support staff in achieving professional development goals through coaching and guidance. Address personnel issues proactively and manage labor costs effectively.
  3. Practice Enhancement - Monitor staff performance, recognizing high achievers and addressing underperformance. Foster a culture of innovation and change within the pharmacy practice. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care services.
  4. Strategic Planning and Project Leadership - Contribute to the development and execution of the department's strategic plan. Identify future needs and develop business cases for pharmacy services. Mentor residents and pharmacists in project management and quality improvement initiatives.
  5. Regulatory Compliance - Maintain knowledge of state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations. Collaborate with leadership to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards.
  6. On-Call Management - Participate in management on-call duties as required.
  7. Performance Standards - Uphold performance, patient satisfaction, and financial metrics as outlined in evaluations.
  8. Behavioral Standards - Adhere to organizational behavioral standards, fostering positive relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
  9. Technology Utilization - Utilize electronic communication and management software effectively.
  10. Additional Duties - Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Pharm.D. or B.S. Degree with a minimum of 3 years of pharmacy experience.
  • Completion of a pharmacy residency is preferred.
  • Current licensure or eligibility to practice pharmacy in the relevant state is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of hospital pharmacy experience is necessary, along with supervisory experience.
  • Project management skills are preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels are essential.
