Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Lighting Production Specialist is accountable for crafting captivating and innovative lighting concepts that enhance the audience's experience during live performances. This role involves close collaboration with artists and their representatives to devise lighting strategies for diverse events.

Primary Responsibilities: The following duties are intended to provide a general overview of the responsibilities associated with this position and are not exhaustive.

  • Work in tandem with content and production teams to design and execute engaging lighting setups.
  • Utilize creativity and technical skills to develop unique lighting elements.
  • Employ problem-solving techniques to address challenges in lighting design and deliver effective solutions that resonate with viewers.
  • Manage the load-in process for band and rental equipment.
  • Oversee the setup and dismantling of equipment for events.
  • Adjust lighting to meet the specifications of artists or events.
  • Operate spotlight systems and lighting control boards, including programming.
  • Maintain lighting systems, which involves replacing faulty lamps, focusing fixtures, cleaning equipment, facilitating repairs, and managing console show files.
  • Meet the audio/visual requirements of artists and events.
  • Ensure the safe and reliable operation of lighting equipment.
  • Assist with technical preparations alongside artist representatives.
  • Safeguard all rental lighting and audio/visual equipment.
  • Collaborate with visiting production teams to ensure a successful event.
  • Create or distribute lighting plot plans as needed.
  • Supervise and operate lighting systems throughout the event.
  • Support the audio team with equipment such as stands, microphones, and cables.
  • Participate in production meetings and attend all scheduled sound checks.
  • Maintain a tidy and organized workspace at all times.
  • Communicate updates and issues to relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist in emergency procedures as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED; extensive relevant experience may substitute for educational requirements.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in live event production, including rigging and lighting design.
  • Familiarity with stage lighting, professional audio systems, and basic video systems.
  • Experience in setting up, patching, and operating various lighting consoles.
  • Strong knowledge of conventional, LED, and automated lighting fixtures.
  • Experience in hanging cables and patching lighting fixtures of all types.
  • Proficient in assembling truss systems.
  • Understanding of workplace safety principles and practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and various lighting software, including Grad MA2/3, High-End Systems, Vectorworks, WYSIWYG, and Pathscape.

Specific hearing and vision abilities are necessary for this position, as it involves working in environments with varying noise levels and lighting conditions. The ability to wear a radio earpiece during shifts is also required.
