POSITION TITLE: Food Service Assistant

ASSIGNMENT: Food Service Assistant - Food & Nutrition Services

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Two (2) years of documented experience in Food & Nutrition Services or four (4) years of documented equivalent experience
  3. Familiarity with computer systems, cash registers, and food processing equipment relevant to departmental functions
  4. Strong verbal and written communication skills
  5. Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  6. Capability to reach, stretch, bend, stoop, or kneel to handle, lift, or move objects from floor level to 6 feet above floor level
  7. Ability to walk or stand for periods of four (4) continuous hours
  8. Ability to work under the following environmental conditions:
    • Inside environmental conditions with protection from weather but not necessarily from temperature changes.
    • Exposure to extreme cold with temperatures below 32 degrees for extended periods.
    • Exposure to extreme heat with temperatures above 100 degrees for extended periods.
    • Exposure to noise levels that may require shouting to be heard.
    • Exposure to various hazards, including proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, and exposure to high heat or chemicals.

PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Accountable to the Food & Nutrition Manager for the satisfactory completion of all assigned duties (oral or written), performed to the established standard
  2. Responsible for adhering to sanitation and safety rules and regulations as directed by the Food & Nutrition Manager
  3. Assists with food service operations during emergencies
  4. Interacts courteously with the public and maintains effective working relationships with managers and colleagues
  5. Maintains high standards of work habits, sanitation, and safety
  6. Adheres strictly to the Handbook for School Food & Nutrition Personnel and all guidelines set forth by The School Board of Highlands County Board policy
  7. Prepares food and/or baked goods as directed by the Food & Nutrition Manager
  8. Follows recipes and production planning sheets accurately
  9. Obtains, weighs, and measures products from storage areas promptly to ensure menus are prepared correctly
  10. Plans production with the Food & Nutrition Manager to ensure timely food preparation, avoiding excessive holding of food
  11. Directs and trains general workers assigned by the Food & Nutrition Manager to assist in food preparation
  12. Packages and stores food products in accordance with food safety standards and advises the manager of amounts to be incorporated into future menus
  13. Monitors serving lines to ensure sufficient food availability and replaces depleted food with fresh products
  14. Operates point of sale systems
  15. Assists the Food & Nutrition Manager with ordering and inventory of products and services utilized by the Food & Nutrition operation
  16. Takes responsibility for the Food & Nutrition operation in the absence of the Food & Nutrition Manager or Assistant Manager
  17. Completes required hours of annual continuing education/training as mandated by USDA Professional Standards or other relevant agencies.

TERM:

Length of contract and number of hours worked are determined by specific allocation as approved annually during planning-budgeting process

APPRAISAL:

Performance will be appraised annually in accordance with School Board policies

PAY GRADE:

According to the School Board of Highlands County Non-instructional Bargaining Support Personnel Salary Schedule
