This role is pivotal in preventing illness and injury, facilitating recovery, and alleviating discomfort through accurate diagnosis and treatment of human responses, alongside advocacy for individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations. The nurse executes responsibilities in alignment with clinical and professional practice standards, continuously evolving their nursing practices through experience and ongoing education. The Level II Registered Nurse typically possesses 18-24 months of experience and is proficient in applying the nursing process while beginning to serve as a resource for colleagues.

Clinical Responsibilities:Utilizes the nursing process (Assessment, Diagnosis, Planning, Implementation/Coordination/Teaching and Promotion, Evaluation) to inform practice and respond to patient needs.

  • Collects relevant data and information regarding patients' health status and evaluates assessment data to identify actual or potential diagnoses, problems, or issues.
  • Establishes expected outcomes or care goals based on a personalized care plan developed in collaboration with patients, families, and communities.
  • Formulates a strategy that outlines methods to achieve expected outcomes or goals.
  • Systematically implements the tailored care plan, coordinating care with inter and intra-professional colleagues, and employing strategies for health education and promotion.
  • Assesses progress towards achieving defined outcomes/goals and modifies the plan as necessary.
  • Employs evidence-based practices in care delivery.
Professional Engagement:Expected to participate in professional role activities, including leadership, commensurate with their education and position. Accountable for their professional conduct to themselves, their healthcare consumers, peers, and society.

  • Utilizes resources effectively and addresses situations involving ethical concerns, consulting with other professionals as needed.
  • Maintains a questioning attitude to address clinical concerns and employs current literature to enhance practice and outcomes.
  • Implements practices that respect cultural diversity and inclusion principles.
  • Communicates clearly and advocates for patient safety by addressing unclear communications that may jeopardize the safety of patients, families, or colleagues.
  • Collaboration with patients and families is crucial in formulating an effective care plan, necessitating inter and intra-professional collaboration for optimal practice.
Leadership and Development:The leadership role of a Registered Nurse 2 (RN 2) aligns with their experience, knowledge, and licensure. Responsible for delegating tasks appropriately to unlicensed assistive personnel while ensuring quality care delivery.

  • Continuously seeks to enhance competence reflective of current nursing practices.
  • Expected to mentor and support the professional growth of novice nurses and nursing students.
  • Engages in quality nursing practice by understanding metrics used to evaluate nursing effectiveness and actively participating in departmental meetings.
  • Identifies opportunities for practice improvement and seeks support for implementing changes.
  • Utilizes resources judiciously to plan, deliver, and maintain evidence-based nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible.
  • Practices in a manner that ensures environmental safety and health, adhering to regulatory guidelines.
Caring and Safety:Caring is fundamental to nursing practice, demonstrated through tangible actions, interpersonal connections, and effective communication. Nurses also promote self-care and environmental stewardship.

Advocates for safety in patient care and within the workplace by raising concerns, reporting safety incidents, and participating in safety improvement initiatives.
