Position Overview
The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in designated areas, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for patients and staff. This role involves following established cleaning protocols and schedules to uphold the highest standards of hygiene.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine cleaning of assigned areas, adhering to a systematic cleaning procedure.
  • Engage in tasks such as sanitizing occupied and discharged patient rooms, washing walls, doors, ceilings, and furnishings.
  • Dust, damp mop, and vacuum floor areas, including carpets, while managing waste collection and disposal.
  • Maintain cleanliness of waste receptacles and compactor areas, ensuring proper handling of soiled linen and distribution of clean linen.
  • Reorganize furniture and equipment post-cleaning to maintain an orderly environment.
  • Request cleaning supplies and equipment as necessary, ensuring all items are returned to their designated storage areas.
  • Utilize various cleaning equipment, both mechanical and electrical, to perform tasks efficiently.
  • Report any maintenance needs for furniture or equipment to supervisors promptly.
  • Ensure secure access to medication storage areas when applicable, and notify supervisors of any security concerns.
  • Provide training and support to new team members to ensure compliance with cleaning standards.
  • Uphold performance metrics related to patient and employee satisfaction, as well as financial accountability.
  • Adhere to compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook and DCH Health System policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to understand verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively. Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is essential. The role requires physical capability to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally and engage in frequent lifting of lighter objects. Tasks involve walking, standing, climbing, and manual dexterity. Exposure to various materials, including human body fluids and cleaning chemicals, necessitates the use of protective equipment. Clear communication skills and the ability to reason and articulate ideas are crucial. Physical presence on-site is mandatory, with normal or corrected hearing and vision required. The position accommodates individuals with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
