The Product Engineer is responsible for overseeing the introduction of new products and providing engineering support for production processes related to specific products or product lines after they have transitioned from design to manufacturing. This role involves collaboration with design, process, testing, reliability, and manufacturing engineering teams to address product challenges and production issues. The Product Engineer will also focus on process enhancements aimed at reducing production costs and improving yield rates.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate projects effectively with minimal supervision from management.
- Take ownership of design and project initiatives, ensuring accountability for meeting deadlines on design deliverables.
- Facilitate clear communication across Engineering, Operations, Quality, Purchasing, Planning, and other cross-functional teams.
- Lead teams focused on process improvements to enhance throughput by minimizing process time and maximizing yield.
- Apply Lean Six Sigma methodologies in daily operations and problem-solving scenarios.
- Work closely with R&D/Design engineering during the development of new components and assemblies.
- Engage in design reviews and engineering analyses to support New Product Development (NPD) initiatives.
- Contribute valuable insights during design reviews and collaborate with engineering teams and product managers to create optimal solutions.
- Ensure new products comply with quality standards and that recommendations align with internal protocols, industry best practices, and customer requirements.
- Collaborate with R&D engineers to facilitate the transition of new products to production, ensuring manufacturability and establishing production lines, SPC charts, and yield reports.
- Devise and implement solutions (equipment and processes) to achieve manufacturing volume objectives.
- Utilize knowledge of various manufacturing processes to ensure that design solutions are feasible for production.
- Verify that all design objectives regarding aesthetics, functionality, specifications, and manufacturability are achieved.
- Propose design strategies and solutions to technical challenges affecting manufacturing operations and seek assistance from peers and engineering management for critical issues.
- Coordinate with different Engineering Departments to address assembly, design, and specification challenges.
- Support technical processes related to projects such as Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), and Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (PFMEA).
- Explore new manufacturing methods or technologies to enhance existing processes and increase capacity and throughput.
- Oversee the installation, troubleshooting, and setup of new fixtures.
- Advise on the installation of new manufacturing equipment and processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Project Management, or Engineering.
- Experience in various operational disciplines within a contract manufacturing setting is preferred.
- Extensive experience in at least two of the following areas: procurement, planning, production management, master scheduling, factory engineering, logistics, and program management.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of contract manufacturing environments and Bill of Material management.
- Demonstrated success in managing and driving continuous process improvement initiatives, with strong analytical skills to identify root causes for resolution.
