Preschool Education Assistant Role at Campbell Child and Family Center

The Campbell Child and Family Center (CCFC) is a vibrant establishment dedicated to training educators, caregivers, and advocates for young children aged 1-5, including those with special needs. The center provides exceptional care and educational services while supporting the state-recognized Early Childhood Teacher Licensure Program (birth-Grade 3) integrated within the Fort Lewis College Teacher Education Department.

At CCFC, university students and faculty utilize the facility for observation, teaching assignments, and research, particularly in Teacher Education and Psychology. Furthermore, the center collaborates with various local organizations to deliver training initiatives aimed at improving the quality of early childhood education and offering valuable professional development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Early Childhood Teacher in overseeing and managing a classroom of toddlers or preschool-aged children.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all children at all times.
  • Support in planning and implementing daily programs under the Teacher's guidance.
  • Adhere to a consistent schedule encompassing various activities such as group experiences, music, movement, and meals.
  • Help set up the learning environment and conduct age-appropriate activities for children.
  • Engage children in both group and individual activities.
  • Foster strong relationships with children and families in a nurturing manner.
  • Interact respectfully with children, parents, and staff.
  • Maintain a welcoming atmosphere for parental involvement in the classroom.
  • Complete administrative tasks such as recordkeeping and housekeeping duties.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training programs, and conferences.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher or Director.
Required Competencies
  • Understanding of child development for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years.
  • Ability to remain calm in various situations and respond to children appropriately.
  • Skill in adapting activities to meet each child's developmental needs.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviors and adhere to established rules.
  • Capacity to foster healthy relationships with children and families.
  • Skill in establishing boundaries with children and families.
  • Knowledge of nutrition practices for young children.
Qualifications
  • Meeting the Colorado Department of Human Services Early Childhood Teacher Aide qualifications.
  • Commitment to enrolling in 2 ECE classes to achieve Teacher Assistant qualification within a year of hire.
  • Previous experience working with toddlers and preschool-aged children.
