Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to join our team at the City of North Myrtle Beach, SC. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of our wastewater treatment facility and pump stations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance tasks to ensure compliance with regulatory criteria established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.
  • Perform basic supervisory duties, including training and guiding junior staff members.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment, including vactor trucks, crane trucks, tractors, backhoes, boats, and mechanical tools.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations and effective communication.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience working in a wastewater treatment plant as an operator.
  • Valid commercial driver's license.
  • S.C. Class 'C' wastewater treatment plant operator certificate.
  • Ability to continue classroom education or training yearly to maintain license with LLR.
Physical Demands

The successful candidate must be physically able to perform the following tasks:

  • Exert in excess of one hundred pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of fifty pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of twenty pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Lift and/or carry weights of ten to one hundred pounds.
Compensation

Pay will be based on operator license level, with the following salary ranges:

  • Wastewater Operator C: $40,450 - $65,100
  • Wastewater Operator B: $46,200 - $73,500
  • Wastewater Operator A: $51,500 - $81,900
