Position Overview

Abacus Technology Corporation is in search of a skilled Cable Splicer responsible for the installation, removal, and relocation of standard telecommunications equipment. This role is a full-time, represented position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Splice, terminate, and conduct testing on fiber optic cables to fulfill project specifications.
  • Execute cabling, power, and grounding tasks for various equipment and hardware while adhering to safety protocols and utilizing appropriate tools.
  • Prepare cables, fibers, or switchboards for terminations.
  • Carry out cabling, ironwork, wiring, basic splicing functions, and verification of cables and leads.
  • Install, remove, or relocate various standard telecommunications devices.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of experience in telecommunications infrastructure and installation. Candidates must possess BICSI Installer II Copper and Fiber (INST-C/INST-F) certification or be able to obtain it within six months of employment. Training in OSHA Confined Space, basic bucket truck operations, ladder safety, aerial and scissor lift safety, GPS, and cable location is essential. Experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of outside plant (OSP) cable systems, including the operation and maintenance of copper, coaxial, and fiber optic cabling (aerial, buried, direct buried, and underground), as well as protected terminals, grounding systems, manhole and conduit systems, connectors, and distribution frames is required. Familiarity with terminating, splicing, locating, marking, testing, tagging, and cross-connecting cable pairs is also necessary. Candidates should be knowledgeable about BICSI regulations, standards, and industry practices. Experience in developing layouts and designs for outside plant infrastructure systems is preferred. Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and industry standards regarding the installation and maintenance of outside plant infrastructure is crucial. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and hold a current Secret clearance.
