Position Overview

Abacus Technology Corporation is in search of a skilled Inside Plant/Outside Plant Technician to enhance telecommunications infrastructure for various projects. This role is a full-time opportunity focused on supporting essential communication systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot CAT 5/6 cabling in compliance with national and military standards.
  • Execute installations following contract specifications and industry standards, ensuring proper duct work and excavation practices.
  • Oversee the maintenance of all premise components, including conduits, raceways, outlets, patch panels, and cabinets.
  • Handle the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Fiber cabling, including testing and termination processes.
  • Conduct regular preventative maintenance on equipment such as cable vaults and sump pumps.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot copper radio and analog circuits, including 66 blocks and their connections to telephony VoIP servers.
  • Document and maintain cable records in databases such as CAIRS, CVC, IMDS, and Excel.
  • Utilize ticketing systems like Remedy and CIPS to manage and route service tickets effectively.
  • Provide Public Address (PA) system support for events, including equipment setup, troubleshooting, and media provision.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in telephone systems installation and cable plant support. A high school diploma or GED is required. OSHA Confined Space certification is mandatory, while Fiber and fusion splicing certifications are advantageous. Familiarity with GPS and ground location tools, as well as experience in CAT 3/5/6 installation and termination, is essential. Knowledge of Fiber installation practices and handling is preferred. Understanding of OSHA standards and established safety protocols is crucial. Familiarity with ANSI and TIA standards is also desired. Proficiency in VoIP systems and cable records databases such as CVC or CAIRS is a plus. Candidates must be adept in using the MS Office suite and should demonstrate self-motivation, clear communication skills, and a customer-oriented approach. The ability to work in confined and challenging environments, including the capacity to lift heavy equipment and perform tasks such as crawling and climbing, is necessary. A valid driver's license is required, and candidates must be U.S. citizens with a current Secret clearance.
