Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Office Assistant to join our team at Owensboro Health. As a Medical Office Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and administrative support to our healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule and reschedule appointments and diagnostic testing using computerized scheduling programs.
  • Collect and record vital signs, perform basic diagnostic procedures, and specimen collection.
  • Monitor and communicate changes in patient condition, document patient care given, and maintain equipment and medical supplies.
  • Accept payments and co-pays, reconcile co-payments and cash receipts, and communicate effectively with insurance companies and external agencies.
  • Provide excellent customer service, answer internal and external calls, and take requests for patient information.
  • Maintain examination areas, perform patient registration, patient check-out, pre-certifications, pre-procedure instructions, and appointment confirmations.
  • Retrieve records, ensure that properly executed release of information forms are obtained, and file new and returned records according to established systems and policies.
  • Enter information from various sources into computer database(s), verify data entered, and correct as required.
  • Locate and prepare records for archival or destruction, initiate retrieval and return of archived records, and follow up on any delays or problems with retrieval.
  • Assist with performing patient assessments and treatments under the supervision of a physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or nurse.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required upon hire.
  • No experience required.
  • ABR-OE - Credential from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) required within 120 days of obtaining 24 months of experience within the last 36 months in a healthcare facility under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider.
  • BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position.
