Responsibilities
  • Decontamination Area:
    • Adhere to CS decontamination area policies and procedures.
    • Properly wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Knowledge of ultrasonic and instrument washer testing and operation.
    • Adhere to CS eye wash station policy and procedures, weekly testing.
  • Instrument Assembly Area:
    • Assemble instruments and equipment according to Central Sterilization policies and procedures.
    • Utilize available resources (Censitrac and OneSource) for the correct sterilization methods.
    • Utilize proper instrument wrapping techniques and proper peel packaging of surgical instruments.
  • Sterilization:
    • Adhere to CS policies related to all sterilization methods, Steam - prevac / gravity, Vaporized Hydrogen Peroxide.
    • Properly load sterilization racks and follow CS policies and procedures for sterilization.
    • Monitor chemical and physical sterilization cycle parameters, document results correctly.
  • Sterile Storage:
    • Adhere to storage requirements for sterilized reusable medical equipment.
    • Facilitate a cohesive sterile processing team. Assist with the orientation and training of new personnel, and participate in the development of educational programs for coworkers.
    • Participate in quality improvement activities, develop process improvement plans, and implementation.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Previous CSR experience required.
  • Certified CSR technicians must maintain 10 hours of continuing education (CE) annually.
  • Certification must be attained from either the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
  • Certification must be maintained according to requirements of either the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
Work Environment

Our Inpatient and Outpatient Surgical facility provides a dynamic and fast-paced environment with a patient population ranging from less than one year of age to ninety-nine plus years of age. Environmental conditions include possible exposure to anesthetics, radiation, and infectious disease entities.

Physical Effort
  • Requires the ability to communicate in English orally and written.
  • Requires prolonged standing and working for up to twelve hours a day.
  • Constantly required to push/pull objects up to 175 lbs.
  • Requires the ability to lift, position, and transport with assistance up to 250 lbs.
  • Ability to work overtime or late shifts as required by the work load schedule.
  • Weekend/Holiday call rotation required.
Performance Standards
