Job Overview

AEDD is seeking a dedicated Direct Support Professional to work with an adult male with developmental disabilities in Little Rock. This role requires valid AR driver's license, proof of auto liability insurance, and a 21-year-old minimum age requirement. A criminal record check and drug screen will be conducted. EOE/M/F

Job Summary: As a Direct Support Professional, you will provide essential support for an individual with a developmental disability to live independently. Your services will enable them to live, work, and participate in community activities.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Support consumers with health and independent living skills/activities of daily living.
  • Maintain appropriate behavior and show respect for others at home and in the community.
  • Assist consumers with daily living skills as outlined in their Medicaid Waiver Person Centered Service Plan.
  • Increase consumer awareness by participating in outings like shopping, social events, appointments, vocational training, banking, church, and other activities.
  • Provide transportation via personal vehicle. To do this, you must have AR State minimum level auto liability insurance requirements at all times.
  • Maintain records of expenses for consumers served to submit to your supervisor.
  • Offer input and recommendations for consumers during annual PCSP planning.
  • Document consumer progress on timesheets, behavior incident reports, etc.
  • Complete required training, including orientation, consumer-specific training, defensive driving, first aid/CPR, in-service training, and additional courses as needed.
  • Submit weekly timesheets, medication sheets, and other necessary documentation before Monday, 10:00 a.m.
  • Effectively communicate with consumers and understand written activity plans, execute instructions, and document services delivered.

Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent, and at least one year of supervised experience working with public health, human services, or a community service agency. Alternatively, two years of verifiable experience with individuals with developmental disabilities may be used in place of education and experience requirements. Safety-sensitive position; must refrain from reporting to work while impaired due to alcohol or drugs. Must not test positive for substance metabolites listed in federal and state controlled substances acts.

Physical Demands

This job involves regular standing, frequent use of hands to handle objects, tools, or controls, and occasional walking. The employee must lift/move up to 25 pounds regularly, 50 pounds frequently, and 100 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjusting focus.

Work Environment

The work environment is moderate noise level, with occasional exposure to changing weather conditions while traveling by automobile. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
