Job Title: Environmental Health Specialist I

Join the Benton Franklin Health District team as an Environmental Health Specialist I, where you will play a vital role in protecting the health and well-being of our community.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for conducting inspections, evaluations, and reviews of environmental health-related activities, including on-site sewage systems, solid waste management, and water supply systems. The successful candidate will also provide education and outreach to the public on environmental health issues and work with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with local and state regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct inspections and evaluations of environmental health-related activities, including on-site sewage systems, solid waste management, and water supply systems.
  • Provide education and outreach to the public on environmental health issues, including vector control, living environment, and epidemiology.
  • Work with various stakeholders, including local government agencies, private businesses, and community groups, to ensure compliance with local and state regulations.
  • Investigate complaints and reports of environmental health-related issues, including illegal dumping and animal bites.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends and patterns in environmental health-related issues.
  • Develop and implement strategies to prevent and control environmental health-related issues.
  • Collaborate with other departments and agencies to ensure a comprehensive approach to environmental health protection.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as biology, microbiology, or public health.
  • Registration with the Washington State Board of Registered Sanitarians.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interpret regulations and explain complex information to the public.
Working Conditions:

This position requires regular driving on a variety of road surfaces and working in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, and must be able to communicate effectively with the public and other stakeholders.
