Synthetic Biology Researcher

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced postdoctoral researcher to join our team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The successful candidate will conduct research in the field of synthetic biology, focusing on the biocontainment of genetically modified microorganisms.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct fundamental research in microbial synthetic biology, employing state-of-the-art library generation and high-throughput approaches to assay protein variants and microbial fitness.
- Implement biological circuits in environmental microorganisms and characterize their efficacy in test beds of increasing complexity.
- Engineer microbial communities for robust function and develop research plans, generate results, and publish peer-reviewed papers.
- Collaborate with other scientists to write proposals and expand our program into new areas aligned with your expertise and interests.
- Present research results at external conferences, seminars, and/or technical meetings.
- PhD in Biological Sciences, Bioengineering, or a relevant field with a strong emphasis in synthetic biology and microbiology.
- Expertise and knowledge in bacterial genetics and physiology, with experience in engineering bacterial strains for environmental function.
- Ability to develop independent research projects as demonstrated through publication of peer-reviewed literature.
- Proficient verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Experience with microbial evolution approaches, next-generation sequencing, and in silico protein design/engineering.
- Experience with gene editing in non-model strains and bacterial signaling systems.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Julia, C, C++, R, Java, or Matlab.
