Behavior Management Assistant-Special Education Specialist

Job DescriptionThe Behavior Management Assistant - Special Education provides critical support to students and staff in various Special Education classroom settings, implementing behavior plans and teaching direct pro-social skills to improve the learning environment. This role assists a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction and performs various clerical duties to support classroom activities.
Key Responsibilities- Assist students in following classroom routines and transitions to provide proactive support and model appropriate participation.
- Communicate with supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel, and parents to evaluate progress and implement IEP and/or other learning objectives.
- Document student performance and behavior data to report progress and provide written reference.
- Guide students in individual and group activities to reinforce instructional objectives and implement IEP/BIP plans.
- Maintain manual and electronic files and records for written reference.
- Assist students with learning activities and the behavioral level system to ensure school safety and a positive classroom environment.
- Report observations and incidents relating to specific students to monitor behavior plans and communicate information to appropriate personnel.
- Respond to emergency situations and provide first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a healthcare professional.
- Implement classroom activities, test administrations, assignments, and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher.
- Attend meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey information relative to job functions.
- Implement behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions.
- Maintain classroom equipment, instructional materials, and manual and electronic files/records to ensure availability and provide written reference.
- Monitor students during assigned periods within various school environments to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
- Perform various clerical functions to support the teacher in providing necessary records and materials.
The ideal candidate will possess an Associate's degree in a related field and at least three years of experience in a school setting providing direct student support services. Required certifications include Pro-Act Certification, Life Space Crisis Intervention Training, and Registered Behavior Technician Training. A valid California Driver's License is preferred.
