Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Per Diem Registered Nurse to join our team at Norwalk Hospital Association. As a Per Diem RN, you will provide direct and indirect nursing care to patients, working collaboratively with our interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Assess patients for potential safety risks upon admission and adhere to hospital policies and procedures regarding patient safety.
  • Initiate interventions related to the risk factors identified and provide pain management based on the patient's reports and assessment findings.
  • Document detailed information incorporating the plan of care, interventions, and outcomes reflecting the patient's physical, mental, and emotional status.
  • Reassess patients on a shift-to-shift basis and complete transfer/discharge documentation, including an assessment of the patient's needs to determine the preferred level of care.
  • Follow the 5 Rights of Medication Administration and verbalize to patients/family/significant other the medication they are receiving.
  • Assess patients prior to administering medications, noting allergies, parameters, potential side effects, effectiveness, and intervening as needed.
  • Provide patient education, assessing learning needs and planning and providing appropriate instruction using applicable teaching methods.
  • Delegating tasks and maintaining accountability for care delegated, promoting a positive work environment through personal example and teamwork.
  • Assuming the role of charge nurse, demonstrating independent problem-solving, decision-making, organizational, and prioritization skills.
Requirements
  • License to practice in the State of Connecticut.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR) within three months of hire.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on unit standards.
Working Conditions

This position requires manual skills, motor coordination, and finger dexterity. There is a significant occupational risk, and the physical effort is very heavy, exerting up to 50 pounds of force. The physical environment is significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
