Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement strategic approaches to family law cases, providing leadership and direction to paralegals and legal assistants.
- Manage full case-handling responsibilities from inception through resolution, ensuring timely and effective resolution of cases.
- Conduct thorough legal research and prepare memoranda on issues related to ongoing or potential cases.
- Draft and review initial pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
- Represent clients in court, preparing them and their cases for trial.
- Interact with clients, experts, and other stakeholders to gather information and build relationships.
- Cultivate relationships with existing and future clients, providing exceptional customer service and ensuring client satisfaction.
- Collaborate with senior partners and paralegals to effectively move files through the civil litigation process.
- Attend court proceedings as needed to represent clients and advocate on their behalf.
- Divide marital assets, including real estate, when necessary during divorce proceedings.
- Prepare legal documents, such as legal pleadings, motions, marital settlement agreements, contracts, judgments, and orders, for a high volume of cases.
- Keep client files properly organized and up to date, ensuring accurate and efficient record-keeping.
- Licensed to practice law in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
- Substantial experience at a law firm working on family law (divorce, custody, child support, modifications) for at least 7 years.
- At least 5 years of courtroom litigation experience.
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
- Estate planning experience.
- Bachelor's degree with a legal background and J.D. degree.
- Ability to successfully represent both plaintiff and defendant sides of a case.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, especially in highly stressful and emotional situations.
