Reports to: Senior Production Manager.
Collaborates with: Staff, Production Management Team, Department Supervisors, Artists & Designers, Labor, and Residents & Students.
Supervises: None.
Position Overview
The Production Manager (PM) plays a vital role within the Production Management Department. The PM is tasked with overseeing multiple subscription productions, tours, and additional programming throughout the season, guiding projects from inception to completion in collaboration with design and creative teams. This position also manages the production maintenance budget and planning, ensuring safety protocols are upheld. The PM will act in place of the Senior Production Manager when necessary. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong project management skills, a solid understanding of theatrical practices, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, detail-oriented environment. The successful candidate will have a robust background in theatrical production and a commitment to the artistic mission of the organization.
- Act as the primary Production Manager for several subscription productions and tours, including additional programming as designated by the Senior Production Manager. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Exercising discretion and independent judgment while leading projects;
- Creating and managing budgets, along with tracking expenses;
- Collaborating with department heads and design teams;
- Leading production meetings, rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances as required;
- Managing rehearsals, load-ins, technical rehearsals, performances, and load-outs;
- Drafting and negotiating contracts for designers and guest artists;
- Working closely with artistic producers, designers, and management.
- Provide oversight on sub-projects as assigned by the Senior Production Manager for larger productions.
- Coordinate departmental support for special events and serve as the main contact for production and operations.
- Manage departmental maintenance, including budget creation and tracking, as well as inventory oversight.
- Ensure safety within the department, including budget management for safety, compliance inspections, and training workshops.
- Mentor and guide assistants and interns as needed.
- Assist the Senior Production Manager in overseeing production supervisors and planning for future seasons.
- Fulfill day-to-day responsibilities of the Senior Production Manager in their absence.
- Act as a liaison between the production department and other departments as necessary.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in collaboration with theatre personnel and creative teams.
- Engage professionally and collegially with all personnel and visiting artists.
- Contribute to efforts aimed at fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.

Qualifications and Skills
- 3-5 years of progressive experience in production management, preferably in a theatrical setting.
- Comprehensive knowledge of theatre practices across all production departments.
- Proven track record in managing production budgets.
- Familiarity with industry-standard safety practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of managing projects from start to finish.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; experience with database and inventory software is a plus.
- Demonstrated success in time and personnel management, budgeting, and creative problem-solving.
- Able to work under deadlines and adapt to shifting priorities while managing multiple projects.

Physical Requirements
- Occasionally lift items weighing up to 25 lbs.
