Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented General Maintenance Person II to join our team at the Kitt Peak National Observatory. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for providing custodial services and general support to staff, public visitors, and tenant organizations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform custodial services to maintain buildings, offices, and dormitory facilities in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Respond to facility emergencies and provide minor repairs as necessary to prevent damage or ongoing loss.
  • Provide material transportation services as directed.
  • May utilize manlift and forklift for elevated work and material handling.
  • May provide support or perform other general/basic maintenance activities or support as assigned.
Requirements
  • Normally, graduation from High School or vocational school, or equivalent.
  • Two years' experience in general building maintenance and custodial needs.
  • General knowledge of methods and techniques for building maintenance and janitorial services.
  • Ability to operate manlift and material transportation equipment and obtain necessary certifications.
  • Basic reading, writing, and speaking skills to prepare documents and records.
  • Basic computer skills as may be needed to correspond and/or communicate information.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minor proficiency in general crafts areas as may be appropriate for shutdown of equipment or protection of facility items.
  • Ability to follow verbal or written directions.
  • Ability to cooperate with others as part of a team and work independently.
Work Environment

The work location is at the Kitt Peak National Observatory, approximately 56 miles southwest of Tucson, Arizona. For Kitt Peak based positions, transportation is provided from NOIRLab's base facility, located on the University of Arizona campus. There is also transportation available via shuttle from Sells or Three Points.
