The Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Associate Project Scientist within the Cornea Genetics Laboratory. This position presents an exceptional opportunity for those passionate about enhancing our comprehension of corneal genetics, regeneration, and biology, as well as applying research outcomes to clinical practices.
Position Overview
Role Summary: The successful candidate will engage in fundamental and translational research aimed at identifying and characterizing genetic components associated with inherited corneal conditions, particularly corneal dystrophies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct innovative research to explore genetic factors linked to corneal disorders.
- Employ established and novel methodologies, including cellular techniques, to examine corneal biology and disease mechanisms.
- Utilize primary and immortalized corneal cells, human iPSC-derived corneal cells, and animal models for in vivo experimentation.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to merge clinical insights with essential scientific research.
- Oversee research operations, including mentoring post-doctoral researchers, staff, and students.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
- A PhD in Biological Sciences is required.
- A minimum of six years of laboratory experience is essential.
- At least ten publications in relevant fields are necessary.
- A minimum of six years of research experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in corneal imaging, molecular biology techniques, protein analysis methods (e.g., western blotting, immunohistochemistry, ELISA), image analysis, and confocal microscopy is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in bioinformatics analysis is preferred.
- Laboratory experience in corneal genetics is advantageous.
