JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of a Sergeant, this position is accountable for upholding state regulations, maintaining public safety, safeguarding individuals, and preventing, detecting, and investigating criminal activities within the jurisdiction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Patrol Duties
  • Deliver assistance, information, and support to community members as needed.
  • Mitigate crime and manage disturbances.
  • Investigate criminal incidents and apprehend suspects when necessary.
  • Engage with community organizations to promote positive public relations.
  • Respond to urgent calls and non-urgent inquiries.
  • Enforce traffic regulations and examine vehicle accidents.
  • Recover lost or stolen items.
  • Seek out missing individuals.
  • Conduct property patrols by vehicle or on foot.
  • Specialize in enforcing specific Texas statutes as required.
  • Provide testimony in civil and criminal court as needed.
  • May serve legal documents, gather evidence, and transport detainees.
  • Maintain awareness of law enforcement techniques and crime prevention strategies.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of relevant Texas laws and codes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of vehicle operation, firearms, and specialized equipment.
  • Maintain physical fitness to fulfill the responsibilities of a peace officer.
  • Comply with Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) licensing standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Crisis Intervention
  • Assist local healthcare facilities and agencies in evaluating and aiding individuals in emotional distress.
  • Serve protective custody orders and legal documents to mental health institutions.
Detective Responsibilities
  • Manage caseloads and prepare detailed reports for ongoing investigations.
  • Review incident reports and witness accounts.
  • Collect, process, and submit evidence from investigations.
  • Interview victims, suspects, and witnesses.
  • Draft legal documents such as search warrants and subpoenas.
  • Collaborate with prosecutorial teams regarding case details.
  • Stay informed about relevant Texas laws and departmental regulations.
  • Understand interview and interrogation techniques.
  • Adhere to TCOLE licensing requirements.
  • Complete additional assigned tasks.
Juvenile and Livestock Enforcement
  • Ensure security at the Juvenile Justice Center and maintain safety within the facility.
  • Conduct background checks and execute warrants as necessary.
  • Oversee juvenile activities and enforce facility regulations.
  • Enforce livestock laws and provide assistance to citizens regarding livestock-related issues.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Operate a vehicle and communication equipment under various conditions.
  • Engage in prolonged periods of driving and sitting.
  • Pursue suspects on foot across diverse terrains.
  • Subdue and restrain aggressive individuals when required.
  • Discharge a firearm safely and effectively.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively.
  • May require working varied shifts.
  • Lift and drag heavy objects as part of rescue operations.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous situations involving criminal activity.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of relevant experience in law enforcement preferred.
  • Possession of a valid Texas driver's license.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • TCOLE Basic Peace Officer license required.
  • Additional certifications may be necessary based on assigned duties.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education or experience in a related field.
  • Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

  • Successful completion of background checks, drug screenings, and physical examinations is required.
