Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Recreation Aide to join our team at the City of Mesquite, NV. As a Recreation Aide, you will be responsible for leading and/or monitoring various recreation activities at our facility or for special events, ensuring the overall cleanliness and appearance of the Recreation Center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the City of Mesquite in a positive and professional manner, demonstrating courtesy and tact in all interactions with employees and the public.
  • Lead and/or monitor activities in arts and crafts, sports, and games, promoting neighborhood and community recreation events.
  • Request, issue, and monitor the return of playground and athletic equipment, ensuring proper care and use.
  • Compile simple written records related to assigned programs or facility.
  • Perform light facility maintenance and custodial duties, including lifting, sweeping, disposing of waste, vacuuming, and washing windows.
  • Assist with various programs, including supervision, coaching, umpiring, refereeing, scorekeeping, or others.
  • Enforce Recreation Center policies to patrons and maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Be dependable and meet acceptable attendance requirements at all times.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of first aid and safety practices, City and Department policies and procedures, federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, and licensing requirements.
  • Ability to use initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines, read, write, and speak the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance.
  • Lead a variety of recreation activities, establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work, and recognize, avoid, report, and resolve unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Working Conditions

Work is performed under the following conditions: work is generally performed in an office or outdoor environment, requiring sufficient mobility to use standard office equipment, sustained posture in a seated position, standing, and/or walking for prolonged periods of time, frequent bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, and climbing, vision to read, hearing, and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Travel to off-site facilities, work a flexible schedule, depending on program needs, including working evenings, weekends, and shifting assignments. Respond physically to emergencies quickly and appropriately, lift, push, pull, move, set up, and remove tables, chairs, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
