Aquatic Facility Assistant Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Leisure Services Superintendent, the Aquatic Facility Assistant assists the public in the safe use of City aquatic facilities. This role is responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness and appearance of the Recreation Center aquatic facilities and assisting with various aquatics programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a representative of the City of Mesquite, demonstrating a positive attitude and professionalism in all interactions with other employees and the public.
  • Safeguard and regulate the conduct of patrons to prevent unsafe practices and accidents.
  • Maintain a constant vigil over patrons in an assigned area, rescuing persons in distress, and making frequent facility and equipment checks for safety.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day cleanliness of the Recreation Center by performing light facility maintenance and custodial duties, including cleaning swimming pool decks and furniture, cleaning scum gutters, locker rooms, lifting, sweeping, disposing of waste, vacuuming, and washing windows.
  • Enforce pool safety rules and regulations.
  • Monitor swimming and other pool activities to prevent accidents.
  • Develop cooperative relationships with pool patrons to ensure positive public relations.
  • Maintain a high level of communication with patrons, staff, media, supervisors, and other department staff.
  • Assist in the proper maintenance and sanitary operation of the pool.
  • Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid to the injured and call Emergency Medical Services (EMS) on serious accident cases.
  • Assist with the operation of the slide during the operation of the outdoor pool.
  • May assist in teaching swimming techniques or instructing aquatic activities.
  • Be dependable and meet acceptable attendance requirements at all times.
  • Follow all applicable safety rules and regulations.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of standard Red Cross First Aid practices.
  • Knowledge of water hazards, life-saving techniques, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Knowledge of swimming pool operations, safety rules and regulations, and rules and regulations relating to Recreation Center Aquatics programs.
Working Conditions:

Work is performed under the following conditions: subject to high levels of public contact and frequent interruptions; work closely with others. Physical requirements include constant bending, reaching, walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, and exposure to excessive noise, sun, and wind during operation of the outdoor pool.
