Research Biologist

Position Objective: To deliver expertise as a Biologist in alignment with the operational goals of the Vaccine Production Program (VPP) and the Vaccine Research Center (VRC) within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engage in or oversee projects involving HPLC, colorimetric, and residual assays. These projects are generally small-scale or components of larger initiatives. This role is primarily laboratory-focused.
  • Gather observations, evaluate data, and interpret findings.
  • Share results in internal meetings and assist in the development of manuscripts and patent submissions.
  • Draft detailed technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses while ensuring proper documentation is maintained.
  • Act as a scientific mentor to fellow laboratory staff.
  • Exhibit proficiency in independently conducting all concentration and bio-separation assays, including HPLC, colorimetric, and residual assays.
  • Showcase expertise in supporting mAb and vaccine projects, collaborating with scientists on method development and investigations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in biology or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in a laboratory setting, with a strong understanding of maintaining accurate and comprehensive records.
  • Knowledge of appropriate laboratory disposal methods and safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with software applications for word processing, data analysis, and project management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members across various departments.
  • Expected to work autonomously or in partnership with others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capable of conveying information clearly to both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills, able to manage multiple tasks and projects efficiently.
