Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team at Northwell Health. As a key member of the perioperative team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist nursing personnel in providing quality care to patients in the Operating Room.
  • Function as a member of the surgical services team by performing perioperative tasks for patients undergoing surgical procedures.
  • Perform duties and responsibilities of a 'scrub' person under the direction of a registered professional nurse.
  • Assist the circulating nurse in gathering instruments, supplies, and equipment for each case.
  • Check and confirm sterility tapes, dates, and integrity of wrappers.
  • Open sterile supplies for assigned cases.
  • Check and troubleshoot equipment for proper functioning prior to use.
  • Perform surgical counts with the circulating nurses according to policy.
  • Perform surgical scrub technique and gown and glove procedure for self and surgical team.
  • Maintain a sterile field and take immediate action to correct any breaks in sterile technique.
  • Arrange instruments, basins, sutures, and software in a precise manner to allow for accurate counting at completion of procedure.
  • Use all devices and instruments appropriately.
  • Perform standard draping technique.
  • Pass and handle instruments to surgical team in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Break down setup and prepare instruments for sterilization.
  • Collaborate with the surgeon to ensure proper labeling of all specimens from the sterile field.
  • Confirm all implants are correct and not expired prior to accepting on sterile field.
  • Assure all fluids are labeled on sterile field.
  • Ensure appropriate and safe use of equipment throughout the surgery.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the procedure.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Successful completion from a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologist, a certified surgical technologist (CST) credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) and maintains annual NYS required annual Operating Room CEU credits, required.
  • OR Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing or of a Nursing Vocational or Nursing Technical school, and current license to practice as a Practical Nurse in New York State, and maintains annual NYS required annual Operating Room CEU credits, required.
Additional Information

This position is eligible for a $10,000 tuition repayment program.

The salary range for this position is $34.49-$49.17/hour.
