Job Summary

As a Surgical Technologist at Northwell Health, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest quality patient care in the Operating Room. Under the direction of the circulating nurse, you will perform perioperative tasks for patients undergoing surgical procedures. Your primary responsibility will be that of a scrub nurse, where you will assist the surgical team in maintaining a sterile environment and ensuring the smooth execution of surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Assist the circulating nurse in preparing the operating room for surgical procedures
Maintain a sterile field and take immediate action to correct any breaks in sterile technique
Perform surgical counts with the circulating nurse according to policy
Assist the surgical team in passing and handling instruments
Collaborate with the surgeon to ensure proper labeling of all specimens from the sterile field

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent, required
Successful completion from a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologist, a certified surgical technologist (CST) credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) and maintains annual NYS required annual Operating Room CEU credits, required
OR Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing or of a Nursing Vocational or Nursing Technical school, and current license to practice as a Practical Nurse in New York State, and maintains annual NYS required annual Operating Room CEU credits, required
