Overview

Under the guidance of the Food Service Administrator, the Food Service Operations Supervisor is responsible for managing the daily functions of a specific food service area within Dining Services. This position entails overseeing food preparation, service, and maintenance tasks while ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The supervisor will lead and coordinate the efforts of student and Civil Service staff, assist with scheduling, and contribute to training programs aimed at maintaining exceptional service quality and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and coordinate the operations of a food service area, including food preparation, setup, service, and cleanup.
  • Direct the work of student and Civil Service employees, offering guidance and training as necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety standards to foster a secure working environment.
  • Assist in developing work schedules, making adjustments as needed to meet service demands.
  • Engage in food preparation and serving tasks, ensuring that quality and presentation standards are upheld.
  • Maintain precise records related to food production, inventory management, and employee schedules.
  • Support the training of new staff on job responsibilities, safety protocols, and customer service expectations.
  • Order food and supplies to sustain inventory levels and meet operational needs.
  • Promote positive customer interactions by addressing concerns and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Collaborate with other food service areas to enhance efficiency and support departmental objectives.
Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Three (3) years of experience in food service within an institutional or commercial environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proven supervisory skills and experience.
  • Ability to successfully complete a food handlers examination.
  • Understanding of sanitation practices and procedures, along with possession of a valid Food Service Management Sanitation Certificate.
