Job Summary:

As a Surgical Technologist I, you will play a vital role in the operating room as a member of the surgical team. Your primary responsibility will be to assist the surgeon and other medical professionals during surgical procedures. This will involve preparing and organizing the operating room, selecting and passing instruments, and maintaining aseptic conditions throughout the procedure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the surgeon during surgical procedures, passing instruments and supplies as directed.
  • Prepare the operating room, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
  • Maintain aseptic conditions throughout the procedure, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Assist with patient care during and after surgery, including positioning and draping the patient.
  • Provide proper retraction of tissue and assist with sponging, suctioning, and performing sponge, needle/sharp, and instrument counts.
  • Prepare suture for closure of surgical incision and apply proper surgical dressing as directed by the physician.
  • Recognize and respond to acute emergency situations, following established procedures and policies.
  • Assist with specimen handling and disposal, adhering to principles of sterilization, disinfecting, antisepsis, and aseptic techniques.
  • Participate in maintaining a safe and clean environment, including handling of surgical specimens and body fluids.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure a smooth and efficient surgical process.
Requirements:
  • One (1) year of operating room or military equivalent experience in a scrub role within the last two (2) years or recent completion of an operating room training program.
  • Surgical Technologist Certificate within 6 months of hire from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or National Center for Competency Testing Certificate - Technologist in Surgery within 6 months of hire from the National Center for Competency Testing.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience as a First Assistant.
  • One (1) year of L&D surgical tech experience.
