Position Overview:
Base salary starting at: $17.62 / hr
Key Responsibilities:
- Under the guidance of a healthcare provider, gather, confirm, and update patient data and medical history. Document patient information in the medical records as reported by the patient.
- Assist the provider in the examination room as needed, which includes support during minor surgical procedures, preparation of surgical trays, pre/post-operative patient care, and suture removal.
Escort patients to examination rooms, measure vital signs such as weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature, and record all information in the patient's electronic health record (EHR). - Utilize the computer system effectively for patient registration, appointment scheduling, ordering laboratory tests, and managing specimens.
- Conduct EKGs, perform point-of-care testing, carry out phlebotomy, manage specimens, perform dressing changes, and execute various other tasks specific to certain medical specialties.
- Handle patient phone inquiries, communicate patient questions to the provider, return patient calls as directed, check patients in and out for appointments, schedule appointments, send and receive medical records, and enter external lab results into the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Some college education is preferred.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Experience in an outpatient clinic environment is preferred.
- Healthcare experience is required for uncertified Medical Assistants.
- Current Medical Assistant certification is preferred.
- Obtaining Medical Assistant certification within one year of employment is preferred.
- Must possess a current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire or obtain it within 60 days of hire, and maintain this credential throughout employment.
- Ability to learn and efficiently utilize an electronic medical health record (EHR).
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- Excellent customer service skills, including a friendly demeanor, tact, patience, empathy, and a professional attitude both in person and over the phone.
- Effective communication skills with staff, management, and the public, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong listening skills.
- Exceptional organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently without immediate supervision.
- Willingness to learn new software applications.
- Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
