Austin, Texas, United States DISCO Full time
About DISCO

DISCO is a cloud-native, artificial intelligence-powered legal solution that simplifies ediscovery, legal document review, and case management for enterprises, law firms, legal services providers, and governments.

Our Mission

Our mission is to use technology to strengthen the rule of law. We aim to provide a unified technology platform for the practice of law, enabling great lawyers to focus on tasks that require human legal judgment.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the evolution and management of our AWS-based cloud infrastructure, focusing on our internal platform and control plane. As a key technical leader, you will drive enhancements to our system's reliability, scalability, security, and overall success.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Define strategy for highly scalable and performant infrastructure and system control plane, including environment configuration, tagging schemes, tenancy models, and permissioning.
  2. Identify capabilities and abstractions needed to satisfy required performance and scalability targets through automated, zero-downtime build, deploy, and control plane systems.
  3. Build and maintain roadmap and architecture for realizing those abstractions and capabilities.
  4. Lead software and systems development for that roadmap.
  5. Provide guidance and sound reasoning for technology selection, particularly in 'build vs buy' scenarios.
  6. Contribute leadership, understanding, and lessons learned to the greater DISCO systems.
  7. Recruit, hire, and mentor other engineers to accomplish the above.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to design and document systems architectures, including Domain-Driven Design, Jobs to Be Done, architectural patterns, and diagramming techniques.
  • Mastery of infrastructure automation, such as Terraform, Cloudformation, Chef, Puppet, etc.
  • Proficiency with container-based deployment, such as Kubernetes, Docker, etc.
  • Fluency in one or more cloud providers, such as AWS, GCP, or Azure (AWS preferred).
  • Experience operating systems at scale, including observability and site reliability.
  • Experience using Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) with an emphasis on a well-maintained testing pyramid.
  • Experience measuring reliability and performance of datastores at scale, such as ElasticSearch, NoSQL Stores, Kafka, Columnar Databases, DataFlow or Pipeline Systems, Graph DataStores.
  • Experience with multiple software stacks, with opinions and preferences, and not being married to a specific stack.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in computer science, software engineering, or similar.
  • Experience leading the lifecycle of a multi-system design from ideation through production deployment.
  • Experience designing, modifying, and operating multi-tenant systems.
  • An obsession with requirements, functional, and non-functional.
  • An understanding of how to identify, select, and extend 3rd Party Components (Commercial or Open Source) that provide operational leverage but do not constrain our product and engineering creativity.
Perks of DISCO
  • Open, inclusive, and fun environment.
  • Benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as 401(k).
  • Competitive salary plus RSUs.
  • Flexible PTO.
  • Opportunity to be a part of a company that is revolutionizing the legal industry.
  • Growth opportunities throughout the company.
