Job Description

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a highly skilled Principal Network Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our IT organization, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our enterprise-level network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement network architecture designs for large-scale data centers and remote sites.
  • Design and deploy new LAN/WAN network infrastructure and connectivity.
  • Oversee and perform administration, configuration, and monitoring of all network equipment.
  • Collaborate with internal and external business groups to develop technical solutions to meet business objectives.
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to functional teams on network-related matters.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of technical network engineering experience.
  • 8+ years of Layer 2/ Layer 3 network architectural design (LAN/WAN) experience.
  • 5+ years of experience working with MPLS, BGP, and other LAN/WAN routing technologies.
  • 5+ years of project leadership experience.
  • Strong experience supporting large-scale data centers and remote sites.
  • Strong experience with end-user device connectivity architecture & implementations.
  • Experience with Cisco networking equipment.
  • Experience with VPN technologies.
  • Knowledge of QoS and network security functions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Network engineering certification such as CCNA through CCIE or the equivalent.
  • Programming/scripting languages and frameworks knowledge and experience, in support of automation.
  • Familiarity with cloud architecture network designs, implementations, and support.
  • ISP and/or carrier backbone engineering experience/knowledge.
