Electrical Engineer for Maritime Systems

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As an Electrical Engineer for Maritime Systems, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and testing prototype sensor systems and testbeds destined for a maritime environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop electrical schematics, circuit boards, and complex electrical systems
  • Develop custom sensor interfaces, signal conditioning, and data acquisition systems
  • Support lab development and testing of electrical sensors, power control hardware, and distribution systems
  • Collaborate with multiple DoD system partners to evaluate current designs, identify risks, and develop solutions

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related technical field with 5+ years of experience
  • Hands-on experience with prototype development, circuit design, debugging, PCB design, and system integration
  • Detailed knowledge of lab instruments and engineering software tools
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or related technical field
  • Experience with moored and towed ocean systems, such as buoys, towed arrays, UUV, and ROVs
  • Experience with development and testing of towed or moored acoustic and non-acoustic sensor arrays or similar telemetry systems
