Job Overview:

The full-time Museum Store Sales Associate plays a vital role in driving sales, merchandising, and providing exceptional service at The Children's Museum Store. This position involves executing daily merchandising responsibilities and ensuring the smooth operation of the cash register. The Associate is tasked with maintaining timely and precise opening and closing procedures, along with consistent completion of daily documentation. A flexible work schedule is required to guarantee adequate store coverage, including weekends and occasional evenings. Additional retail projects may be assigned by Store management as necessary.

Reporting Structure:

This position reports directly to the Museum Store Sales Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver outstanding sales and customer service by consistently maintaining a positive and courteous demeanor.
  2. Promote museum-wide initiatives by warmly greeting and welcoming all visitors to the store.
  3. Manage cash register operations during sales transactions and address minor technical issues as they arise.
  4. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of store merchandise to provide informed recommendations and encourage sales.
  5. Demonstrate and engage with featured products to enhance sales opportunities.
  6. Stay informed about current and upcoming exhibits and museum events to offer knowledgeable insights to customers.
  7. Ensure the store opens and closes on time, adhering to all security protocols.
  8. Accurately count cash and complete necessary paperwork during closing procedures.
  9. Assist in training new sales associates and foster a continuous learning environment regarding technical updates.
  10. Support the promotion and sale of Museum memberships.
  11. Monitor inventory levels to minimize shrinkage and participate in all inventory assessments.
  12. Serve as a backup for hosting weekend birthday parties when required.
  13. Be available for extended hours and special events as needed, including attendance at sales and team meetings.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Previous retail sales experience is preferred, though related sales or service experience will be considered. A basic understanding of business mathematics and inventory management is essential. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in operating a cash register and conducting accurate transactions. An outgoing and enthusiastic personality is crucial, along with professionalism, dependability, adaptability, organization, and efficiency. The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, child-focused environment that values diversity is essential.

ADA Requirements:

Candidates must be able to view computer monitors, keyboards, and store inventory. Effective communication with customers, visitors, and staff is necessary, requiring extensive face-to-face interaction. The ability to operate a cash register and document financial transactions accurately is essential. Candidates must navigate the museum's physical space, which includes kneeling, sitting, and standing for extended periods. The ability to lift up to 30 lbs. and tolerate dust in the indoor environment is also required.
