Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team at Lancaster General Health. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures, working closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the delivery of patient care by handling instruments during operative procedures and by performing a variety of duties related to the preparation, processing, and arrangement of surgical instruments and supplies.
  • Monitor all personnel for compliance with aseptic techniques and safety standards.
  • Function primarily as an instrument handler on all types of surgical procedures, utilizing techniques of infection control and adhering to specific sterile and aseptic techniques and procedures.
  • Secure, set up, and prepare Operating Room equipment, instruments, and supplies, arranging them in a specified order and adjusting equipment to meet the needs of the surgeon and operative requirements.
  • Function as a first assistant to the surgeon, handling tissue, using instruments to provide wound exposure and hemostasis, suction, sponge, and bovie when needed, cutting tissue, and tying suture as directed by the surgeon.
  • Anticipate and supply the surgeon's needs for instruments, supplies, and equipment, ensuring the surgeon's attention is not diverted from the operative field.
  • Identify emergency situations and respond in a calm and efficient manner, recognizing surgical complications and anticipating corrective measures to ensure expeditious treatment.
  • Care for contaminated instruments and supplies during and after surgical procedures, utilizing appropriate environmental control techniques.
  • Participate in the on-call system in the O.R. for emergency and urgency cases.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • If new to the Surgical Technologist role, without any previous Surgical Technologist experience, hired after 12/28/2020, must be a graduate of an approved school of surgical technology and be certified within 6 months of hire or validation of completion of a surgical military training program (Army, Navy, or Air Force).
  • CPR Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) year of Operating Room scrub experience.
