Position Overview:

We are seeking a qualified individual for the role of Oncology Nurse Coordinator - Cancer Center (Fort Hamilton). In this capacity, the successful candidate will work within the NYU Radiology and Perlmutter Cancer Center as a Radiology Nurse Coordinator based in Brooklyn, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

The primary responsibility of the Radiology Nurse Coordinator is to guarantee that patients receive timely and suitable navigation to diagnostic and treatment services while ensuring continuity of care.

In this role, the successful candidate will coordinate, implement, and assess treatment plans for surgical and radiology patients in collaboration with the attending physician, multidisciplinary team, patients, and their families.

The Radiology Nurse Coordinator will also provide education and information to patients and families regarding therapeutic and non-therapeutic clinical trials and research studies for cancer screening and newly diagnosed oncology patients, as well as in community settings aimed at the general public.


Key Responsibilities:

- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, to develop and implement a patient-centered care plan for oncology patients that reflects shared decision-making and incorporates individual patient and family preferences, enhancing quality, access, and cost-effective outcomes.

- Facilitate continuity of care and confirm appointments across various services, including diagnostic imaging, procedures, and physician appointments.

- Ensure laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic study orders are placed according to practice protocols, distinguishing between normal and abnormal findings, and following protocols for abnormal results with the collaborating provider.

- Act as a respectful member of the healthcare team, participating in activities related to professional nursing standards and regulations from relevant external agencies.

- Maintain timely and appropriate communication with family members, other disciplines, and ancillary services in collaboration with the attending physician and nursing leadership.

- Demonstrate knowledge of the organization's Service Standards and integrate them into the performance of responsibilities.

- Participate in the development and revision of interdisciplinary and nursing standards, as well as patient and family education materials relevant to the Radiology and Perlmutter Cancer Center.

- Engage in the development and monitoring of patient outcomes per established practice protocols for quality and performance improvement.

- Serve as a clinical expert and resource for the education of peers and other healthcare professionals, maintaining current expertise in the area of practice.

- Promote personal professional growth and development in the clinical role, considering the needs and behaviors of patients receiving early detection and treatment services for cancer in Brooklyn and surrounding communities.


Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify, candidates must possess a Current Registered Professional Nurse license in New York. A baccalaureate degree in nursing is required, while a master's degree in nursing or a related field is preferred.

A minimum of four years of clinical practice experience with the patient population served is essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to apply the nursing process to achieve specific outcomes in an organized manner that addresses patient and family satisfaction. Leadership potential and the ability to develop, guide, motivate, nurture, and coach others are also required.

Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication abilities, and creative problem-solving skills are essential. Membership in relevant professional organizations is preferred. Candidates should possess the physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and auditory acuity necessary to perform responsibilities.


Required Licenses:

- Registered Nurse License - NYS


Preferred Qualifications:

At least five years of clinical nursing experience is preferred, along with some exposure to oncology and/or radiology imaging. Experience in nurse navigation, case management, or patient counseling and education is also desirable.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with New York state law on salary transparency in job advertisements. The salary range for this role is $118,000.00 - $140,000.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on various factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital needs.
