Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Plant Optimization Specialist to join our team at Vulcan Materials. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for championing continuous improvement initiatives and driving operational excellence across our production facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Champion Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve plant-operating efficiency, evaluate and recommend new technologies or procedures, and develop tools and applications to enhance our capabilities.
  • Analyze and Optimize Plant Performance: Evaluate and support in-field plant performance, historian data, and plant performance models to identify opportunities for operational improvement and implement new systems.
  • Develop Dashboards: Create and improve plant-level dashboards and reports to support operations management and drive operational improvements.
  • Be Present: Visit and inspect production facilities, build relationships and knowledge of our operating facilities, and teach, coach, and communicate operational strategies and opportunities for performance improvement.
  • Assist: Assist division process control engineers in the maintenance and improvement of existing plant automation systems, assist division engineering in assessment of capital improvements, and assist division management in KPI improvement initiatives.
Requirements
  • B.S. or Associate Degree in Engineering or equivalent of 5 years in the aggregate industry with production plant operations experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation and speaking in group settings.
  • Plant operational knowledge, including a thorough understanding of aggregate qualities and plant setups.
  • Time management skills, including the ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate multiple projects and priorities at one time.
  • Knowledge of plant optimization programs, PID loops, and instrumentation such as level sensors, scales, VFDs, etc.
  • Ability to anticipate, plan, and coordinate projects, and develop contingency plans.
  • Physical ability to drive a pickup truck on a daily basis and navigate production facilities.
