Job Summary

The State of Illinois is seeking a highly skilled Architectural Specialist to join our team. As an Architectural Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting inspections and surveys of healthcare facilities to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and codes.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct on-site inspections and surveys of healthcare facilities to determine conformance with applicable laws, regulations, and codes.
  2. Review and approve or disapprove healthcare facility drawings, specifications, and change orders in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and codes.
  3. Complete inspection forms and inform medical facilities of deficiencies, evaluate and approve proposed methods of correcting deficiencies.
  4. Attend educational seminars relating to healthcare facilities and design and construction standards.
  5. Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Requirements
  1. Requires a bachelor's degree in architecture or architectural studies.
  2. Requires possession of a valid Illinois certificate as a registered architect.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Three years of professional architectural experience.
  2. One year experience conducting on-site inspections and surveys of healthcare facilities to determine conformance with applicable laws, regulations, and codes.
  3. One year experience conducting inspections of construction projects.
  4. Thorough knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of architecture.
  5. Thorough knowledge of building construction practices, building materials, and trades capabilities and construction.
  6. One year experience communicating architectural themes effectively to non-architect parties without utilizing technical jargon.
  7. Ability to independently evaluate project elements and make sound architectural decisions.
  8. Elementary knowledge of basic engineering principles.
  9. One year experience in Microsoft Word, processing, and spreadsheet applications (i.e., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
Working Conditions
  1. Requires appropriate, valid driver's license.
  2. Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties.
  3. Requires the physical ability to climb stairs and ladders, and access construction sites.
  4. Requires completion of the Life Safety Code Surveyor certification program within 24 months of hire.
