Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Facility Maintenance Specialist to join our team at IndyGo. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing routine and complex maintenance tasks to ensure the smooth operation of our facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facility Maintenance: Perform routine and scheduled maintenance tasks to ensure the upkeep of our facilities, including grounds, exterior structures, and buildings.
  • Repair and Installation: Perform repairs and installations of machinery, tools, equipment, and associated equipment to ensure continuous and safe operation of our facilities.
  • Grounds Maintenance: Directly or indirectly support all exterior grounds activities, including grass cutting, dumping trash, landscaping, and other exterior area needs.
  • System Maintenance: Directly or indirectly support the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, electrical, plumbing systems, and water distribution and sewage facilities.
  • Sanitation and Pest Control: Support all sanitation processes and procedures, including rodent and pest control.
  • Painting and Repairs: Perform painting, small-scale structural repairs to masonry, woodwork, wallpaper, and treatments, and furnishings of buildings.
  • Technical Knowledge: Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals pertaining to facilities and equipment installed and serviced.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records regarding ground maintenance activities.
  • Collaboration: Assist licensed plumbers, electricians, and HVAC personnel as appropriate.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or its equivalent; formal trade school or an associate degree in facility management, engineering program, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of two (2) years experience in the maintenance trade, with strong knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and structural repairs required.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid Indiana Driver's License is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Technical Knowledge: Ability to read and understand drawings, schematics, blueprints, landscaping techniques, drainage systems, site preparations, and comprehend verbal descriptions pertaining to components.
  • Electrical Systems: Knowledge of electrical systems, allowing for repairs or adjustments up to and including; changing fluorescent ballasts, 120v receptacles, replacing electric motors, identifying and replacing lamps for all applicable fixtures, and keeping stock of same.
  • Plumbing Systems: Knowledge of plumbing systems, allowing for repairs or adjustments of faucets, clogged traps, clogged toilets, flush valves, and irrigation systems.
  • Materials and Tools: Operational knowledge of the methods and practices used to construct and shape sheet steel, aluminum, plastic, fiberglass, wood, plywood, and other materials commonly used in facilities.
  • Safety Principles: Operational knowledge of mandated safety principles related to personal protective equipment, chemical hazards, lockout/tag out, and general shop safety and cleanliness practices.
  • Decision Making: Ability to select and use correct parts, tools, and test equipment to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
  • Communication: Ability to maintain accurate records and communicate information and ideas so others understand.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to understand and follow directions and procedures, and above-average decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Time Management: Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage tasks and time effectively, and adapt to frequent changes in workload.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to deal courteously and effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
Physical Demands
  • Work Environment: Ability to work in a deadline-oriented environment, work independently with work checked regularly, and work in close quarters, at heights, outdoors, and to repeatedly move or transport heavy objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • Physical Abilities: Ability to remain stationary for long periods of time, position self to work at floor level and in confined spaces, and move throughout the workday, occasionally between departments and facilities.
  • Tools and Equipment: Must have tools required to perform daily routines, some tools will be provided.
  • Exposure to Hazards: Requires exposure to heavy machinery/equipment, excessive noise, extreme temperatures, fumes/odors, some hazardous materials, and dirt/dust.
  • Physical Testing: Must be able to pass all post-offer physical testing and complete all physical job functions as defined in the Functional Job Description.
  • Work Schedule: Ability to work night and weekend work shifts and overtime regularly due to assignment shifts being picked according to the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
