Air Traffic Management Specialist

The primary objective of this role is to deliver comprehensive air traffic management services to both military and civilian aircraft operating within a radar environment. This includes the application of instrument flight rules (IFR) and visual flight rules (VFR) to ensure the safe, organized, and efficient movement of air traffic.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide air traffic control services, ensuring safe navigation and separation of aircraft in flight and on the ground.
- Utilize communication and display systems to assist aircraft during emergencies.
- Offer guidance and support to fellow air traffic control personnel.
- Maintain all necessary certification requirements.
Qualifications
To be eligible for this position, candidates must possess a minimum of one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level or equivalent in other pay systems. This experience should include work in a military or civilian air traffic facility, demonstrating the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform effectively in this role.
Essential Skills
- In-depth understanding of air traffic control laws, regulations, and procedures.
- Familiarity with Terminal Air Traffic Control (ATC) Procedures, including both tower and radar operations.
- Ability to make quick and accurate decisions in high-pressure situations while coordinating multiple processes.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively.
Additional Information
This position is subject to specific retirement provisions for Air Traffic Controllers and requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Candidates must also be prepared to undergo initial and periodic drug testing as part of employment conditions.
