About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Accountant II to join our team at Chesapeake Utilities Corporation. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for preparing monthly financial statements, communicating with stakeholders, and supporting internal and external audits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare monthly financial statements, including journal entries, issue resolution, and review with internal customers.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate with key stakeholders to collect input and adjustments needed for the preparation, completeness, and accuracy of the monthly financial close.
  • Account Reconciliation: Create and document monthly account reconciliations, variance analysis, and flux analysis.
  • Support for Audits: Support the finance team in both internal and external audits for designated business units.
  • Tax Filings: Prepare monthly sales and motor fuel tax filings, and initiate payment on these items.
  • Financial Support: Act as a point of contact with operations personnel to answer financial-related questions and assist with resolving issues.
  • Project Management: Facilitate meetings with project managers to discuss project status and communicate actual vs. budget capital spend.
  • Process Improvement: Evaluate existing processes to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Financial Reporting: Attend management meetings with BU leaders to discuss financial results.
  • Collaboration: Contribute to cross-departmental collaboration within other finance areas to help achieve timely filing goals and overall company growth.
  • Community Involvement: Participate in company efforts focused on community involvement and safety.
