Advocacy Specialist for Survivors

Status: On-Call

Response Compensation: $23.00 Per Hour + Bilingual Differential

Standby Compensation: $30/weeknight shift, $100/weekend shift + $23.00 an hour when responding to calls.

Schedule:

We are looking for on-call advocates to cover 1 weeknight on-call shift weekly and 1 weekend on-call shift monthly. A weekly daytime on-call shift on Fridays is also available.

Weeknight shifts: Sunday to Thursday nights from 5 PM to 8 AM the following day.

Weekend shifts: Friday 5 PM - Sunday 5 PM.

Weekday shifts: Fridays 8 AM - 5 PM.

Current Shift Openings:

  • Monday night shift
  • Tuesday night shift
  • Friday day shift
  • 1st Sunday night of the month
  • 3rd weekend of the month
  • 4th weekend of the month
  • Additional shifts may arise for fifth weekends or to cover open shifts as necessary.

Position Overview:

Mission:

  • Approach all tasks with a focus on racial equity and its connections to poverty. Implement anti-racism principles in daily responsibilities.
  • Embrace the YWCA's dedication to social justice by recognizing how various forms of oppression intersect and are ingrained in institutions. Pursue ongoing education about racial, gender, and class equity.
  • Ensure that all participants, staff, volunteers, and community partners are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their background.
  • Obtain approval for, monitor, and engage in activities that fulfill the organization's 1% for Social Change Requirement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver advocacy that acknowledges the diversity of individuals and families, effectively communicating available resources that align with their cultural values and experiences.
  • Initiate each shift by contacting the Hotline to confirm availability for calls.
  • Respond to sexual assault hotline calls within fifteen minutes during shifts.
  • Provide in-person support during medical forensic examinations at designated emergency rooms.
  • Document participant-related information in compliance with legal requirements and confidentiality policies.
  • Report to the Sexual Assault Program Director at the end of each shift to summarize calls received or indicate no calls were taken.
  • Submit participant-related documentation to the Director of the Sexual Assault Program within 24 hours of the incident.
  • Complete and submit a timesheet to the Director of the Sexual Assault Program by the monthly deadline.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures established by YWCA Clark County and the Sexual Assault program.
  • Participate in initial sexual assault advocacy training or possess equivalent training from another organization.
  • Complete 12 hours of sexual assault continuing education training annually.

Advocacy Approach:

  • Support victim-survivors of sexual assault using an empowerment-based advocacy model.
  • Provide emotional support and relevant information to address participant concerns.
  • Make mandatory reports as legally required.
  • Offer appropriate referrals and resources to participants and others as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Experience working with individuals in crisis situations.

General Requirements:

  • Pass a background check as per contract requirements; this should not deter applicants.
  • Complete all core training requirements for sexual assault advocacy in Washington state.
  • Possess reliable transportation.

Language Proficiency: Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing, with participants, colleagues, and community partners. Bilingual skills are preferred.
