Job Summary

The Medical Lab Scientist plays a vital role in the healthcare team by performing diagnostic tests to provide accurate and reliable data for patient diagnosis and treatment. As a Medical Lab Scientist, you will be responsible for conducting clinical laboratory testing, ensuring the validity and accuracy of test results, and working collaboratively with the healthcare team to provide high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Perform clinical laboratory testing of various complexities, using various laboratory equipment and devices, and ensuring timely and efficient results.
  2. Comply with all Health First policies and procedures, as well as federal and state accreditation agency requirements.
  3. Perform quality control on laboratory tests, ensuring accuracy and validity, and assist in the validation of new tests, equipment, or methodology.
  4. Perform regular equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting to ensure adherence to established standards of accuracy.
  5. Meet departmental goals and continuously improve performance improvement metrics.
  6. Communicate effectively with the laboratory team, external clinical departments, and other healthcare professionals.
  7. May be required to obtain laboratory specimens by venipuncture and capillary puncture, as needed.
  8. Cross-train in other departments within the laboratory or perform other lab-related tasks as directed by supervisor.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Lab Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field, as outlined by CLIA.
  • Medical Technologist licensure by the State of Florida and in accordance with CLIA.
  • Ability to pass a color blindness test, proficient in required computer applications, and work autonomously with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
  • 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
Work Environment

The Medical Lab Scientist will work in a laboratory setting, with a majority of time spent sitting or standing, occasional walking, bending, and stooping. The workspace may vary from open to confined, and the job may require travel to various facilities within and beyond the county perimeter.
